STaRMER NOW

WHO REALLY IS

8/10 BROKEN PLEDGES

Keir Starmer vowed to hike taxes on the top 5% and reverse Tory cuts to corporation tax. Instead, he's backpedaled on these promises, citing economic uncertainties and opting for fiscal caution over bold action.

1

ECONOMIC JUSTICE

2

SOCIAL JUSTICE

Starmer pledged to scrap Universal Credit and end the sanctions regime. Yet, he's only proposed minor reforms, arguing that a complete overhaul is impractical, abandoning the big and transformative change he once championed.

3

CLIMATE JUSTICE

Starmer pledged a £28 billion annual investment in the green economy but later revised it to ramp up to £4.7 billion by the midpoint of Labour's first term, potentially lowering it to £8.3 billion. This drastic reduction falls short of his initial bold promises.

4

Promote peace and human rights

His promise to prevent military interventions and prioritize human rights has fallen flat. He has backed the current government's stance on various international conflicts and arms sales, putting national security over his earlier ethical commitments.

5

Common ownership

He initially backed nationalisation of rail, mail, energy and water services but has since retreated from these bold pledges. He now emphasizes partnerships and regulatory measures, shying away from the transformative nationalisation he once advocated.

6

Defend migrants’ rights

Despite pledging full voting rights for EU nationals and defending free movement, Starmer has taken a more cautious stance. His focus on a controlled immigration system is a significant step back from his original, more compassionate promises.

7

Strengthen workers’ rights and trade unions

Trade unions have expressed frustration over the lack of substantive action to enhance workers' rights, feeling betrayed by his inaction.

8

Radical devolution of power, wealth and opportunity

The bold pledge to radically devolve power and abolish the House of Lords has been diluted. He now supports only modest reforms within the existing system, abandoning his initial promise of an elected House of Lords.

9

EQUALITY

Starmer promised to dismantle barriers to oportunity and build on Labour´s legacy of equality. As the least concrete pledge of all it´s hard to say if he´s delivered or broken this.

10

Effective opposition to the Tories

Starmer, by changing his position on almost every issue has managed to create chaos for the Conservative party. And now it is his election to lose.
